Who is the best candidate for the best job in the world? Difficult to say. I frankly feel compassion for those who will have to judge those thousands (in fact about 130000) applicants. Even if it takes only a minute and a half to view one spot, it would take 585 hours (24 days and 9 hours) to watch them all. No breaks. They have only one week to do so. I doff.
The task was to explain why you are the best person for the job, to demonstrate your knowledge of the Great Barrier Reef and all this within 60 seconds in an entertaining way. Not easy at all. I would say, the only way not to end up in a trapdoor with thousands of others was to be different, to attract the attention, to entertain. Maybe. What is entertaining, it is very subjective though. There are plenty of those who were sitting at their desk, monotonously talking about their jobs, hobbies and dream to go to Australia. There was also quite a considerable group of applicants who are active swimmers, scuba diving instructors, lifesavers, seals trainers etc. who were, however, talking about themselves in the first place and their passion for sports (but it is not Olympics, it is a job with many other tasks than to snorkel or surf). Only a minority covered, in my point of view, everything what was required.
I did my best to introduce myself as a well English-speaking scholarship student, traveller, explorer, good photographer, out-door, active and creative person with kind sense of humour and good sense for details. Hopefully, not in any portentous way, but I rather tried to illustrate my keenness for nature on my album from Australia. I have respect for every living creature, atmospheric agencies such as water, air and fire... in short for nature. Australia is the place to which I pay tribute. I would add I am open and reliable person, always willing to try new things.
The best candidate is most likely an active person by nature, sporty (but not necessarily any Olympic winner of swimming - 100 meter freestyle), creative, good photographer, partly a journalist, writer/blogger, communicative and representative person willing to appear in public, a person of a good character. But how to find him/her in the thousands? When the first (and only) impression comes from one-minute show? No other information besides name and country is available. Would you prefer anybody decent with style or rather anyone provocative trying to amuse you by swimming in a fishbowl? Am I similar to your imaginary best applicant?
That is the question for the jury... If YOU believe in my skills, please give me your vote (five stars). I would appreciate it.
Note: Till the end of February applicants may be rated only, starting March 2, you can vote for a Wild Card candidate.
